John passed away on May 4, 2017 and was a founding member of the Britannia Support Society. For many years, John essentially ran the Britannia Support Society on his own, without much publicity or fanfare. He will be missed.

Stan Wong – Served as President
Stan graduated from Britannia in 1972 and is married to a Brit alumnus, with whom he has four adult children. He is a founding partner of Koffman Kalef Business Lawyers, where he practices commercial real estate, banking and corporate law. He has worked on local real estate projects such as the Crystal Metrotown, Shangri La, Woodwards, Fairmont Pacific Rim and Emerald Towers. Stan has served as a director for private real estate corporations and assisted in the formation of the Burnaby Metro Selects Soccer Society.
Stan helped establish the Britannia Support Society in 1993. He sees his work on the Society as a small way of giving back to the school which provided him with a quality education and many fond memories and lifelong friends.
Larry Prentice, Served as Secretary
Larry graduated from Britannia in 1969, and is married to a classmate. After receiving a B.A. (Hons.) from Simon Fraser University he qualified as a chartered accountant in 1978. Larry enjoyed a 35-year career with Ernst & Young LLP, most of which was spent as the partner in charge of the insolvency and restructuring practice in EY’s Vancouver office. As a bankruptcy trustee, Larry’s practice focused on providing advice and leadership roles in financially challenged situations.
Larry has been and remains very active in community and professional organizations. He served as national Chair of both the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP) and the Canadian Insolvency Foundation, and as a Director of the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (BC/Yukon Division). Larry was elected as a Fellow of CAIRP in 2004, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia in 2006, and the Insolvency Institute of Canada in 2009.
Frank Sam – Served as Member at Large
Born and raised in East Vancouver, Frank attended Lord Strathcona Elementary School. In 1969, Frank graduated from Britannia Secondary School. He attended Simon Fraser University in the BA program and also completed the Business Administration Diploma Program at BCIT.
Frank is married to Lynn with two adult children and is very proud of his two grandsons, one who is graduating from high school in 2014 and the other in 2017.
Frank worked as a Senior Manager in the Warehousing and Transportation Industry and retired in 2010. He looks back fondly at his years at Britannia and is looking forward to assisting the Britannia Support Society.
Brenda Wong – Served as Member at Large
A business entrepreneur and marketer, Brenda re-engineered two major brand name business’ taking them from several years of successive losses to full financial profitability.
Founder and President of Modelco Vancouver Management Ltd. (and MVM Talent, a division of Modelco) Brenda represents professional performers for film, television, commercials, voice over’s and local, international modelling contracts worldwide.
An accomplished management professional with 20 plus years of experience in film, television, fashion and model & talent management, and a background that spans acting/stunt performing, public speaking, industry association leadership roles, business consulting, marketing, communications, public relations (including conflict resolution & crisis management) and business management, film & fashion instructor/educator; this former Miss Chinatown Princess and past President & Public Relations Director of the Western Canadian Designers and Fashion Association has ambition and she’s motivated by results.
With multi-level skills and established industry network connections, Brenda brings her business acumen to the BSS Board of Directors. Colleagues say Brenda is very “lucky”, while she says, the harder she works the luckier she gets!
Dawn Kelly is the Clothing & Textiles, and Foods & Nutrition teacher at Britannia. Dawn is a recent (2010) graduate of the BEd. program at UBC, and has been teaching at Britannia since 2012. Dawn also has a BSc. in Textile Design from the UofA.Dawn has been the chairing the Project Britannia Committee (former Promotions Committee) since 2013.
Dawn’s Foods classes also make a hot dinner for The Homework Club every Tuesday. Dawn has been moved, touched, and inspired by her students, as well as her colleagues, to be involved in raising the profile and marketing the “gem” that is Britannia.
Dawn hails from Burlington Ontario, but calls Vancouver home. Dawn is married and has a son.
